Three Stays That Belong on Your Brazil List
Some places are worth the journey. Others become part of the journey itself.
2026
Brazil has a way of surprising you beyond its most familiar landscapes. A historic hotel overlooking the falls, an urban retreat woven into the heart of São Paulo, a century-old icon facing the Atlantic, each offers a different way of experiencing the country.
These are three stays I find particularly memorable, not simply because of where they are, but because of the sense of place they create around you.
For me, choosing a hotel is rarely just about the room. It is about location, atmosphere, service, privacy, the rhythm of a stay, and how naturally a property connects you to the destination around it.
01
Hotel das Cataratas
When the destination becomes the stay.

There are destinations where the landscape is the reason you travel, and then there are places where the hotel allows you to experience that landscape differently.
Set within Iguassu National Park, Hotel das Cataratas places you remarkably close to one of Brazil's most extraordinary natural wonders. The experience is not only about seeing the falls, but about experiencing them at a different pace, surrounded by rainforest, quiet mornings and the feeling of being immersed in the destination rather than simply visiting it.
For a first visit to Iguassu, this is the kind of stay I would consider carefully. Being inside the park changes the rhythm of the experience and allows the destination to feel much more personal.
There is also something special about experiencing Iguassu beyond the busiest hours of the day, when the park becomes quieter and the landscape feels almost entirely your own. For me, that is where the value of staying here truly lies: not simply in being close to the falls, but in having the time and space to experience them with a little more stillness.
The detail I love
Sometimes the greatest luxury is simply having more time in a place.

02
Rosewood São Paulo
A stay, even when you are not staying.
São Paulo is a city that rewards curiosity, and Rosewood São Paulo is one of the places I would make time for even on a short visit.
Set within the historic Cidade Matarazzo complex, the property brings together architecture, art, gardens, restaurants and contemporary Brazilian culture in a way that feels distinctly São Paulo.
I have visited several times without staying overnight, which is perhaps the best way to explain why I recommend it beyond the traditional hotel experience. Come for lunch. Stay for a drink. Wander through the gardens. Take in the art. Let the afternoon unfold without rushing to the next reservation.
Part of its appeal is its setting. São Paulo can feel immense, energetic and sometimes overwhelming, so having a place that brings together different layers of the city in one address is particularly valuable. The historic architecture, the gardens, the restaurants and the art create a natural pause from the pace outside, while still keeping you very much at the heart of São Paulo.
What I find especially memorable is the way the property allows art and design to become part of the experience rather than simply decoration. There is something to notice around almost every corner, from the architecture and landscaping to the works of Brazilian artists integrated throughout the property. It rewards taking your time, looking a little closer and allowing the space to reveal itself gradually.
I would particularly recommend making time for Rosewood when São Paulo is part of a wider Brazilian itinerary. It works beautifully as a place to slow down between days of exploring the city, but it is also worth visiting on its own terms. Whether you are staying overnight or simply stopping by for lunch, a drink or an afternoon surrounded by art and gardens, the experience adds another layer to understanding the city.
For me, this is what makes a property truly interesting: when it becomes part of the destination itself.
The detail I love
You do not necessarily have to check in to experience the Rosewood.

03
Copacabana Palace
When a hotel becomes part of the city.

Some hotels are so deeply connected to their destination that they become part of its identity. Copacabana Palace is one of them.
Facing one of Rio de Janeiro's most iconic beaches, the hotel has been part of the city's story for generations. But beyond the history and the name, what makes a stay here special is the sense of occasion that comes with it, the architecture, the service, the pool, the rituals and the unmistakable feeling of being in Rio.
There is something particularly beautiful about looking out from the room and seeing the city continue around you, the beach below, the movement along the promenade and Rio unfolding almost as a backdrop to the stay.
What I particularly appreciate is how naturally the hotel connects with the city around it. From here, the beach, the promenade, the neighborhoods, the restaurants and the energy of Rio are all within easy reach. It makes the Copacabana Palace more than a place to retreat to at the end of the day. It can become a starting point for experiencing the city itself.
I would especially consider it for a first visit to Rio, a celebration, or simply for someone who wants the hotel itself to be part of the experience. There are properties where the destination is the main event and the hotel quietly supports it. Here, the two become almost inseparable.
It is also a place where the small rituals matter. A slow breakfast, an afternoon by the pool, a drink before dinner or simply returning to the room as the city lights begin to come on can become part of the memory of Rio. These are the details I look for when considering a stay, not only what a hotel offers, but how it makes you feel while you are there.
And perhaps that is the real appeal of staying somewhere like this: you are not simply booking a hotel in Rio. You are choosing a way to experience the city.
The detail I love
The best hotel stays often give you a different perspective on a place you thought you already knew.
The Advisor's Edit
These are very different stays, and that is precisely the point.
One is about nature and proximity. One is about art, food and the energy of a great city. One is about history, atmosphere and an unmistakable sense of place.
There is no single definition of the right hotel, only the right hotel for the way you want to experience a destination. That is where thoughtful travel planning begins.
If you are planning a journey through Brazil, I would be happy to help you find the places that make the journey feel entirely your own.
More places worth knowing, coming soon.
